Guy Fawkes Day, also known as Bonfire Night, Cracker Night and Fireworks Night, is a British annual celebration on the evening of the 5th November. It celebrates the failure of the Gunpowder Plot, in which a group of Catholic conspirators, led by Robert Catesby, attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament on the evening of 5th November 1605.
It involves fireworks displays and the building of bonfires, on which ”guys“, or dummies, representing Guy Fawkes, the most infamous of the conspirators, are traditionally burnt.
Remember, remember
on the 5th of November,
the Gunpowder plot.
We see no reason
why the gunpowder treason
should ever be forgot.
Very cool, in the evening they have a party. Amazing I want to do that in Portugal. That way I go to bed very late 😛
I had never heard of this British celebration. I think it is interesting to us, students, to know more of British or English culture. Now I know that Guy Fawes Day is an British celebration. It happens on the 5th November.

When I heard of Bonfire Night I did’t associate it with anything. However now that I saw what it was, I realized that I already knew something about this celebration. I think it’s a little creepy, and to repeat it once a year, even symbolically, the burning of one or more human beings! However I think it demonstrates a sense of fatherland from the country. It was good, to remember it anf get a bit of general culture.
I liked the text; it’s interesting and I think it was well written.

Well I guess that if he wanted to destroy the Parliament he should be remembered as a bad person and this is a good way to remember it as such.
I think it’s a very interesting story. I had never heard of this celebration but I think it is a very fun and lively celebration.
I liked the work because I did not know that in England people celebrate the “Fireworks Night” on November, 5th. They celebrate the failure of a group of Catholics that attempted to burn the houses of parliament. Very interesting!
I find it very interesting. It should be good to watch.
Don’t worry… Done it! Thank you for your comment.
In English… please!

I had never heard about this party. I like to burn things so I would like to be at that party.
I think it’s a different tradition which I had never heard of but at the same time I consider it a unique celebration and a very old one too and even today it maintains their roots.
Uau… It´s so interesting and must be so fun. One day (maybe) I´ll be there because I love festivities and fireworks.
